September mornings temperatures can start of a bit fresh but within a few hours the hot day has arrived. The better surfers will be enjoying the quality waves at Zicatela or La Punta for those who need an easier wave to ride. Many extra fiestas and national celebrations happen during this month making Puerto Escondido a great place to visit in September.

The rains that start in May still make themselves known but depending on the year will bring more or less rain than other years. Hardly ever will it rain all day or for a few days in a row. The rain that does come, arrives as tropical storm showers and often hits mid to late afternoon. The rains bring a lovely cooling to the outside air temperature although the rain it self is not very cold. You won't feel too cold if you get wet but will drop off shortly after the rain stops.

September 15th is the main Mexican celebration and the fiesta happens at Agencia Municipal town square after sunset. You will see lots of traditional art expressions and hear authentic national music. Around 11pm is the main event when all Mexicans in attendance will relive their call for independence by calling out "Viva Mexico" numerous times.

Many visitors to Puerto Escondido will have a lovely time watching from the action of the many surfers riding the waves at Zicatela, La Punta, Marinero or Carrizalillo bay. At each of these locations at varying times of the day people will see a wide variety of surfers enjoying the waves of the ocean.
