May is the hottest month in Puerto Escondido and normally the month when the rains start. Less visitors come before the rains as for most people 35c/95f degree days are a bit too much to bear. Because there are less tourists the month of May is when you can save money on lodgings and activities.
The local people and tourists will love swimming in the waters around Puerto Escondido when the air temperatures are very high. The sea water is usually lovely, clean and clear for swimming and cooling off. The waters of Puerto Escondido have much sea life in May making snorkelling a recommended activity for all visitors.
Mexico changed to daylight saving (also called summer time) in April which helps make the afternoons longer and giving people more time to enjoy the beach after work. Many folk simply enjoy hanging out on the beach in the cooler parts of the days and watching the many surfers ride the waves at Zicatlea, La Punta, Marinero or Carrizalillo bay near Rinconada.
