The month of January each year is always not busy as the crowds of December around Christmas week have left town. Some days the weather being will warm up yet the mornings can be fresh making it still a great time to visit Puerto Escondido. There is not much happening event wise except the first week of January when Mexico celebrate the day of the kings on the 6th.

Weather wise, January is a perfect time to visit Puerto Escondido. Most days are cloudless yet the vegetation is showing the lack of rain. It rarely rains in January and if it does it might be only for a few minutes all month.

If you are at Zicatela beach you will see the last of the sky divers jumping and landing on the beach. After the crowds have gone it is a good time to learn to surf as the waves are mostly smaller this time of year.

The January water temperature is ideal for snorkelling and swimming. Some days the different currents may bring a cool change to the sea water temperature but mostly the water is warm to be in. Unless you live in a place with warm ocean waters, you will think the sea waters around Puerto Escondido are hot! Through January the waters are nearly always clear so you will get great clarity when doing water activities like diving or snorkling.
