August is not always as hot & humid month as previous months in Puerto Escondido but normally during the month it will still rain many days of each week most years. Normally there are less tourists during the rainy season (May-October) because for most people 35c/96f degree days with 90% humidity are a bit trying. Because in the month of August many schools take vacations there might be a few more tourists in town, but visitors can still come and save money on lodgings and fun activities thanks to lower season prices.

The storm water run off from the rains will make their way to the creeks then ocean around Puerto Escondido and always pollutes the the ocean. The surfers who come for the big swells and good surf mid-year would be wise not to surf straight after a big rain nor while the ocean looks (and most likely is) dirty.

The many cloudy days of August will help makes it easier to enjoy more time at the beach without getting roasted by the sun. Many visitors to Puerto Escondido will enjoy a good time watching the action from the beach of the local and visiting surfers riding the waves at Zicatela, La Punta, Marinero or Carrizalillo bay near Rinconada where many will be getting surf lessons.
