Most days the temperature is very, very hot (above 30 degrees celcius) so it is wise to use the many taxis or other affordable means of transport and not walk around in the heat if you don't need to.

A ride in the local taxis will normally cost 20 to 30 pesos (about 2 or 3 USD) per ride. Puerto Escondido also has a colectivos system which operate on a particular route and these cars or mini-buses cost only a few pesos per person per trip.

Enjoy you time more in Puerto Escondido by walking less and using the cheap means of transport.

PS. People don't normally pick up hitch hikers.
